font encoding difference and how to possibly change

Hey all,

I am hoping someone can help explain and possibly answer the dilemma I am facing.  We are using an ERP software system that generates pdf files for its report output.  The output is designed by developers, but the actual generation of the pdf is done within the ERP batch engine where the design developers have no access.

I am designing a report that uses a TrueType barcode font.  When this batch report runs on a windows box, the output looks just great.  That's the good news.  The ERP software runs on an iSeries (IBM AS400) and the output is just not the same...the barcode does not render any of the 'special characters' of the font (ie ascii values > 122).  I am absolutely positive that my barcode string contains the correct hex values whether run in windows or on the iSeries.

This ERP report generator produces a pdf with the barcode font embedded in the document.  The only thing I see that is different between the two platforms is when looking at the document properties on the font tab, the windows embedded font has an endoding of: ANSI.  Whereas, the encoding on the iSeries gen'd document is: Standard.

So finally to my questions:  What does this difference in encoding mean?  Can this encoding difference have anything to do with why the font is rendered differently?

Can the encoding of an embedded font be changed after the document has been created?  If so, how?

I've attached a copy of each platform's output.
