How to compute the font table width?

I'm creating pdfs with my own pdf library using only ArialUnicodeMS.
My problem is that characters are drawn overlapped in some cases and I think the problem is in the Glyph Width table.
Can you give me some hints how to compute it? Some WinApi functions that I can use?
