Acrobat security--cannot save secured PDF

I often use Acrobat security to password-protect files that I share outside my group at work. However, sometimes after I set up the password and try to save the PDF, I receive the message: The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document [107].

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
